Wisconsin Health Information Organization Dataset
Get Access to Wisconsin's Largest Source of Healthcare Data
AHW has made a significant investment in a partnership with the Wisconsin Health Information Organization (WHIO) to make their valuable, all-payer claims database available to Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) researchers whose work will benefit from accurate and timely health-related data on Wisconsin’s population.
MCW faculty or staff may request access to the database at no additional cost by filling out an application form. Access is granted on a rolling basis and expires after one year, with the option to renew.
If you have questions concerning registration or login access, please feel free to email us. You can also contact WHIO staff with any questions concerning the content of the database.
About WHIO
WHIO is a public-private partnership formed in 2008 between the State of Wisconsin and private sector leaders, to make information on Wisconsin’s health care delivery system available to all.
WHIO hosts Wisconsin’s all-payer claims database, the largest source of health care data in the state. It integrates insurance eligibility, medical claim and pharmaceutical claim data from private and public payers, including commercial health insurers, self-funded employers, Medicare Advantage Plans, and Wisconsin Medicaid. The data covers all care settings, services, and professionals that are paid for by insurance companies.
"Making this resource available to our MCW colleagues is one of the many ways AHW is working with partners throughout the state to fulfill our mission of maximizing the health of all Wisconsinites."

WHIO’s data allows us to understand how healthcare is delivered and financed across the state and is therefore ideal for research activities focused on monitoring public health, driving policy analysis, or promoting the transparency and improvement of healthcare utilization, cost, and quality.
Using WHIO’s expansive database, AHW has developed a series of resources to drive researcher knowledge on and exploration of Wisconsin’s leading health challenges.
